PERINATAL MENTAL HEALTH

Therapy for Pregnancy, Postpartum & Pregnancy Loss in California

Becoming a parent — or trying to — can be one of the most profound experiences of a person's life. It can also be one of the most disorienting.

The gap between how you expected to feel and how you actually feel is real. You might be struggling with anxiety that won't quiet down, a grief that others don't fully understand, an identity that's shifting faster than you can keep up with, or the particular devastation of a loss that the world often doesn't know how to hold.

This work is close to my heart, informed not only by advanced clinical training but by personal experience with pregnancy loss and the postpartum period. I've invested in advanced training in perinatal mental health because I believe these experiences deserve careful, informed, compassionate support.

I support individuals navigating:

  • Prenatal anxiety, depression, or emotional overwhelm during pregnancy

  • Postpartum anxiety, depression, rage, or the general sense of feeling unlike yourself after birth

  • The identity shift of becoming a parent — what's sometimes called matrescence

  • Pregnancy loss at any stage, including miscarriage and stillbirth

  • Termination for medical reasons (TFMR) and the complex grief that often follows

  • Fertility challenges, pregnancy after loss, and the emotional complexity of the path to parenthood

  • The transition into motherhood more broadly — including isolation, relationship shifts, and loss of self

WHAT THERAPY CAN OFFER HERE

Postpartum depression and anxiety are more common than people are told, and more serious than they're often treated. If you've spent weeks being reassured it would pass — while quietly wondering why it hasn't — that experience deserves more than reassurance. It deserves real support.

My training through Postpartum Support International (PSI) has deepened my ability to support individuals and families through the full perinatal period — pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. When it's helpful, I collaborate with other members of a client's care team — lactation consultants, doulas, OBs, midwives, and perinatal psychiatrists.

Therapy offers a space to name what's happening, understand it, and find a way through that doesn't require you to push past it alone.

We'll work at your pace, with approaches drawn from CBT, psychodynamic therapy, mindfulness, and trauma-informed care — adjusted based on where you are and what actually helps.

In postpartum work specifically, we often explore things like the identity shift of becoming a mother, the gap between expectations and reality, perfectionism and the comparison trap, relationship and communication changes that come with a new baby, and finding connection and support — the things that quietly make this season harder than anyone warned you about.

A NOTE ON TMR

Termination for medical reasons is a grief that is often carried in silence — socially, culturally, sometimes even within families. The loss is real. The love was real. The complexity of the decision and the aftermath deserves space that doesn't minimize any part of it. I hold this work with care and without judgment.
